As part of an annual funding process, Westfield planners submitted projects for consideration by the Metropolitan Planning Organization, which is responsible for planning and programming federal transportation funds in the eight-county Central Indiana region. Projects are judged based on such criteria as impacts to air quality, improvements to congestion, safety, pavement quality and more.

“It’s always a very competitive process, but Westfield’s projects rose to the top,” Gremling said “Building and maintaining infrastructure is one of local governments’ biggest challenges, but also critical to the regional and state economies.”

“We are the second fastest growing community in Indiana, said Mayor Cook. “As we manage this growth, being able to tap in to these funds helps Westfield be forward-thinking in how we build out our infrastructure.”

Westfield was one of 15 communities and agencies in the region to receive federal funds. Construction at the 169th Street and Spring Mill Road roundabout will begin in 2022, while the roundabout at 161st Street and Oak Road will begin the following year. The two projects will reduce traffic congestion at the intersections, according to the application Westfield submitted. The total cost of the two roundabouts is $3,584,000.

Mayor Cook along with City Council President Jim Ake will be part of the event to accept the ceremonial check.
