Office manager extraordinaire Anita Bjork was born and raised in Midland, Michigan, an eclectic and inclusive community that also is home to Dow Chemical Co. As a child in the sports-oriented town, she walked to school or rode her bike. As an adult, she loves the arts. Here’s some Q&A so you can get to know her better.

Hobbies?

I make jewelry, paint and draw in many mediums.

Pets?

I am a dog person but I do have a few wonderful “grandcats” in my family.

Favorite author, musician, actor or pro athlete?

I like a good mystery! I started reading Agatha Christie at a young age. I also enjoy books by Stuart Woods and the humor of Janet Evanovich.

I am a big fan of ’70s rock. My first concert was Bob Seger, so he is pretty special to me. In my teens, you could see a big-name concert, enjoy a burger and refreshments for $20—totally doesn’t happen today. And I’ve have been known to listen to my share of heavy metal!

I enjoy actors who totally absorb a character and pull you into a drama.

Heroes growing up?

The civil rights activists from the ’50s and ’60s. They lived in a time of blatant hate and forged the path for future activism—and they did it with tenacity and deep faith.

Favorite place to visit or vacation?

I have no real favorites. I have sailed the Apostle Islands with my son and I’ve seen the dark depths of cold Lake Superior. I have seen the beauty of the West, the craziness of L.A., the mountains of Colorado, the fields of Iowa. Anyplace where you can be with those you love, feel history and appreciate the beauty of nature is where I love to be.
