MPO Funds Local Planning Studies

On August 22, 2018, the Indianapolis MPO's board (the IRTC) approved funding for nine local planning studies. These studies were selected during a competitive call for applications from the MPO's city, town, and county members in 2017. The projects are currently preparing their Requests for Qualifications (RFQs), which will be issued in the coming weeks. The timelines for each project will vary, but the MPO intends to have each project under contract and moving forward by January 1, 2019. Brief project descriptions and total estimated project costs (based on project funding applications) are included below.

  • Boone County CR 300 S Corridor Study: This study will investigate roadway expansion and reconstruction needs and opportunities between the Zionsville Town Limits and Boone/Hamilton County Line. ($150,000)
  • Brownsburg Transportation & Mobility Plan: An update to the Town’s 2012 Comprehensive Plan, focused on transportation and mobility, access management, and connectivity in Brownsburg. ($95,000)
  • Carmel Workforce Connector Study: This study will assess and develop local transit plans/proposals that support, and possibly integrate Indy Connect recommendations. Tasks include a funding assessment, operational planning, and an implementation plan. ($40,000)
  • Cumberland Master Transportation Plan: Development of a transportation master plan that includes a thoroughfare plan, integration of asset management plans, incorporation of regional transit plans impacting the study area, complete streets policy and implementation plan, and corridor study for Buck Creek Road. ($70,000)
  • Franklin Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan: This study will provide the City with a comprehensive inventory and condition assessment of existing bicycle and pedestrian facilities, provide a long-range maintenance plan for those facilities, identify future improvements to the system, and facilitate coordination with municipalities in Johnson County for development of regional bike and pedestrian facilities. ($115,000)
  • Hendricks County Transportation Plan Update: This plan will review and consider changes that have occurred in the County since the Transportation Plan was last approved, their effect on Hendricks County’s transportation system, and how to address those impacts. ($80,000)
  • McCordsville Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan: A bicycle and pedestrian master plan study to determine the best interconnected town-wide bicycle and pedestrian facility system. ($45,000)
  • Plainfield Corridor Study: This study will identify a recommended location for a future I-70 interchange between SR 267 & SR 39 and a new N/S corridor to US 40. ($200,000)
  • Speedway Crawfordsville Rd. Corridor Study: This study will identify and evaluate solutions to traffic safety and operational concerns along the Crawfordsville Road corridor. The study will be used to build consensus toward solutions, help prioritize resultant infrastructure projects, and be an aid to secure the funding of those projects. ($75,000)
