Transportation planning methods require the use of data from a variety of sources. We collect and use data related to land use, business, people, traffic, transportation systems and household travel behavior. Because these data underlie our planning process and decisions, making as much of it available to the public as possible is an important part of making planning more transparent.
The MPO uses the data it collects to understand our present day use of Central Indiana's existing transportation system and uses that understanding to project how different future transportation systems might meet our future travel needs. Transportation analysts use mathematical sets of equations, or models, to quantify our understanding of these systems and to produce the forecasts. The process of using mathematical models for this purpose it called Travel Demand Modeling.
The results of our travel demand forecasts are normally published in our planning documents. Because we get many requests for this information, we will be publishing some forecasts in this section of our website as well.
For questions about the content of this section or any of the MPO's data, please contact Principal Planner Andy Swenson.
