Mike has been working in the transportation planning field since 1979. He joined the Indianapolis MPO in July, 1994. Previous experience includes 11 years as a Transportation Planner with the Indiana Department of Transportation and 4 years as Senior Transportation Planner with the Madison County Council of Governments, the MPO in Anderson, Indiana.
Mike is a native of Anderson, Indiana and has lived and worked in Indianapolis since 1983. He received a B.S. degree in 1978 from Ball State University in Muncie with a double major in Geography and Natural Resources and a minor in Urban and Regional Studies in 1978, and also received graduate credits in Urban and Regional Planning. Mike is a recipient of the Air Force Commendation Medal while serving in the United States Air Force as an aerial photo interpretation specialist from 1968 to 1972. He enjoyed living in Denver, Omaha, and Honolulu while in the Air Force, but came back home to central Indiana to live.
Mike's primary responsibility is the management of the on-going planning efforts of the MPO. Other duties include:
- Project Manager for the DiRecTionS Regional Rapid Transit Study
- MPO Coordinator for the School Involvement Program involving students and teachers from several metropolitan area high schools and middle schools in the transportation planning process. The School Involvement program, which was cited as a "Best Practice" by the U.S. Department of Transportation, is coordinated through the Center for Interactive Learning and Collaboration (CILC)
- Member of the US 36 Community Advisory Committee
- Member of the Community Advisory Committee for the Hamilton County US 31 Corridor
- Moderator of the Citizen's Advisory Committee (CAC), and the IRTC Technical and IRTC Policy Committee Meetings.
