Erika Hinshaw joined the Long Range Transportation Plan section of the MPO in the summer of 2009. Erika recently completed her Master of Community Planning at the University of Cincinnati. She also holds a B.S. in Geology and a B.A. in Geography and German from Indiana University. After graduating from IU, Erika served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in The Gambia, West Africa, where she taught math and science at a rural middle school. While working on her master’s degree, Erika worked as an intern at Over-the-Rhine Community Housing and was a Seasongood Fellow with the City of Cincinnati, working in the Office of the Mayor and the Department of Community Development.
Erika is a native of Carmel and is delighted to work as a regional planner in the Indianapolis Metropolitan Region. She is interested in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), the relationship between transportation and land use, the social issues of planning, and public participation. When she is not working, Erika enjoys spending time with her husband and little boy, reading, exploring Irvington, and crocheting.
